Texas Spring Season Finale

X-Bar Shootout
ElDorado, TX
May 17, 2009

This past Sunday marked the final race in the Texas Spring Championship series.

Congratulations to Tim Kane for snagging the Championship, CAT2, 40-44. I moved up to #3 overall.

With inches of rain Friday and Saturday, and the high potential for more wind and storms I decided not to risk damaging the DC easy up. We tried to pre-ride the course around 1230 on Saturday, but got about 1/2 mile in and decided it was just too wet to ride. Went back out at 430pm and it was mostly rideable.

For the race Sunday they reduced the loop to 6 miles, down from 9, but increased the lap count to still make it 18 miles. Fortunately it didn't rain overnight Saturday and the CAT3's and CAT1's raced ahead of us, helping get rid of some of the mud, but there were still spots where you had to CX the bike across.

I was third into the single track, and about 2 miles or so in, I almost endo'd in a rock garden, and having issues getting back on the saddle and clipped in Gary comes around me. Towards the end of lap 2 Drew catches me and goes around me and gaps me in a tricky section he cleaned and I dabbed. Lap 3 I was all alone and not sure of my pace requirements and Mark and Phil catch me with only a few hundred yards left. Mark blazes around me, and when I realize he's in my class, I hit the gas. In the same section Drew got me last lap (I didn't clean that section in 3 previous tries), Mark and I both pretty much clean it, but he beats me in the final sprint to the line, 6th place, Phil didn't clean it, and was a second or so behind. That was enough points wise to put me in 3rd for the series!

Drew on my six.

Lots of rocks:
